For a while, this was a book I reread every so often. She told me the protagonist’s name reminded her of me hence her decision. My sister gave me Walk Two Moons for my tenth birthday. Gramps lives with them with his new beagle puppy Huzza Huzza. The police find her and take her to Gramps who tells Sal Gram died. Sal visits her mother’s grave and gets closure. Margaret had been sitting next to her mother hence the friendship with Sal’s father. Sal keeps driving on her own to the spot of the bus accident. At Coeur D’Alene, Idaho, Gram is once again admitted to a hospital and is said to have a stroke. So, on the road trip, Gram gets bitten by a poisonous snake. Patridge (Margaret’s mother) had been the one to leave letters. Winterbottom had a son before marriage whom she left for adoption. Phoebe gets anonymous messages on the front porch and thinks the lunatic left them. Winterbottom disappears leaving a note on the table and frozen meals in the fridge. Phoebe gets a visit from a boy who she dubs “the lunatic.” Mrs. Sal and Mary Lou’s cousin Ben fall for each other. They hang out and spend time at Mary Lou Finney’s place too. She befriends Phoebe Winterbottom who lives close to Margaret and is in the same grade as Sal. Sal convinces him to only put it on rent and they move to Ohio close to where Margaret Cadaver (Sal’s father’s friend) lives. Sal’s father goes to Idaho and when he returns, decides to sell the farm. Then they get the news that Sugar won’t be coming home. Sugar sends postcards from every stop the bus makes to Idaho. Sal and her father settle into a new routine for a while. After her child is stillborn, Sal’s mother Chanhassen (Sugar) leaves to clear her head. Sal used to live in Bybanks with her parents. Salamanca “Sal” Tree Hiddle goes on a road trip with her grandparents to trace her mother’s steps. Rating: 5/5 (I mean, come on, this is one of my favourite books!)
